This USB COM Port Cable is compatible with the FW2B, FW4B, and all 6-Port Vaults.
The COM port of the Vault is a redirection of a TTY output. This allows the Vault to be controlled by a serial communication program such as PuTTY on Windows. It eliminates the need for a separate monitor to get into the BIOS, or while installing/utilizing an operating system (OS), as long as the OS supports a serial connection.
The COM cable has a USB-A 2.0 male connector one end and an RJ-45 connector on the other. Details regarding the use of the Vault COM port can be found on the Protectli Knowledge Base here: How to use the Vault’s COM port
The necessary drivers should be automatically installed for Windows and Linux when connected, and are provided by FTDI. The adapter is based on the high quality FTDI FT232 chipset.
